Jean Yarrington (Nee Exley)
Remembered her roots!
In May we had a sad and amazing story to tell you one that bridges a gap of 46 years! With sadness, we had to announce that Jean (a band member during the 1960's seen above in a red jacket) had passed away after a long illness.
In an amazing gesture of generosity, Jean's family asked that, in lieu of flowers, her friends donate to Huddersfield Youth Brass Ensemble. Steven Jeans son said, "We couldn't think of a better way to remember Mom than by helping kids in Huddersfield grow or find their passion for music like she did."
All donations have now been received, amounting to $1192 and £255, an amazing total of £972 for our funds.

New Musical Director
We always welcome new players, young and . . . older, into any of our bands and but we are currently trying to recruit experienced players into our senior band.
The band has a busy period coming up, with the Yorkshire Championships in March and a CD to record in April.
We started 2011 with promotion to the 3rd section and have continued to recruit some great people into our organisation.

We would welcome players into any of our bands.
• Are you looking for a busy concert and contesting band?
• Have you got children or grand children that want to learn to play a brass or percussion instrument?
• Have you spent many years in banding and would like to pass that experience on to our young players?
• Are you an older but inexperienced player that would like to play again?
• Have you retired, got time on your hands and would like to play a brass or percussion instrument?
• You are never too old to learn!
Whatever your age, or ability, we have a place for you in our bands.
Whatever your age, or ability, we have a place for you in our bands. If you would like to join the HYBEA details of how to do it are on our CONTACT page.

The Bands
Huddersfield Brass is comprised of the following bands.
Huddersfield Junior Brass
The starter band of the Association made up mainly of younger children, with the addition of a few members of our Youth Band and a few adult helpers.
The aim of this band is to provide an ensemble for those children who are just beginning to play an instrument.

Conducted by Alan Jazwinski the band plays a wide variety of music, which is chosen to suit the standard of the players in the band.
This band feeds our Youth Band with players and is a great way for children to be introduced to the world of brass bands.
Huddersfield Youth Brass
The intermediate band of the Association mainly children at a slightly higher standard than those in the Junior Band.
Again under the baton of Alan Jazwinski the Youth Band tackles more challenging music than that played in the Junior Band. Playing a wide variety of music, from marches & hymn tunes to selections from musicals and more.
Just as the Junior Band feeds the Youth Band, the Youth Band in turn feeds our Senior Band with players.
Huddersfield and Ripponden Brass
The senior band of the Association is currently taking applications for the position of Musical Director and will be holding auditions for the post in due course.
The band is newly promoted and will compete in the Yorkshire Area 3rd section from January 2011.
Huddersfield Brass and Ripponden Brass worked closely together to honour commitments. As a natural consequence, in October 2006, the Ripponden Band merged with Huddersfield Brass to create Huddersfield and Ripponden Brass.
The band is still based at Golcar Conservative Club and rehearses on Monday and Friday evenings. |
