News
Our Association had mixed fortunes in 2009. We recruited new players to all our bands, increased the number lessons provided, won a few prizes, kept a busy schedule and were able to assist many charities and good causes.
Unfortunately, our senior band started the year by missing out on promotion by only half a point and it was an extremely sad year in which we lost our Musical Director, Steve Platten, and a former flugel player, Beryl Taylor-Wilkinson, to cancer.

We have started 2010 with promotion to the 3rd section and continued to recruit some great people into our organisation. One of our players had a baby boy in May and another of our members is getting married in September. It promises to be a busy and exciting year!

We would welcome players into any of our bands.

• Are you looking for a busy concert and contesting band?

• Have you got children or grand children that want to learn to play a brass or percussion instrument?

• Have you spent many years in banding and would like to pass that experience on to our young players?

• Are you an older but inexperienced player that would like to play again?

• Have you retired, got time on your hands and would like to play a brass or percussion instrument?

• You are never too old to learn!
Whatever your age, or ability, we have a place for you in our bands.

Whatever your age, or ability, we have a place for you in our bands.  If you would like to join the HYBEA details of how to do it are on our CONTACT page.

Our secretary and Chief Steward at the Championships, Alan Jazwinski, presented the Steve Platten

Memorial Shield to John Hopkinson, the Musical Director of Worsbrough Brass and conductor of the winning 4th section band.  The award will be presented annually in memory of our former Musical Director, Steve Platten.

The Bands
Huddersfield Brass is comprised of the following bands.

Huddersfield Junior Brass

The starter band of the Association made up mainly of younger children, with the addition of a few members of our Youth Band and a few adult helpers.

The aim of this band is to provide an ensemble for those children who are just beginning to play an instrument.

Golcar Lily Day 2008

Conducted by Alan Jazwinski the band plays a wide variety of music, which is chosen to suit the standard of the players in the band.

This band feeds our Youth Band with players and is a great way for children to be introduced to the world of brass bands.

Huddersfield Youth Brass
The intermediate band of the Association mainly children at a slightly higher standard than those in the Junior Band.

Again under the baton of Alan Jazwinski the Youth Band tackles more challenging music than that played in the Junior Band. Playing a wide variety of music, from marches & hymn tunes to selections from musicals and more.

Just as the Junior Band feeds the Youth Band, the Youth Band in turn feeds our Senior Band with players.

Huddersfield and Ripponden Brass
The senior band of the Association has Tony Jaeger-Fozard as Musical Director and the band will compete in the 3rd section from January 2011.

Huddersfield Brass and Ripponden Brass worked closely together to honour commitments. As a natural consequence, in October 2006, the Ripponden Band merged with Huddersfield Brass to create Huddersfield and Ripponden Brass.

The band is still based at Golcar Conservative Club and rehearses on Monday and Friday evenings.
